Immocap partnered and CEO Martin Šramko spoke at CITY FORUM 2019 – the first year program of the Czech-Slovak professional conference on well-functioning cities.

On 19 June 2019, leading European figures in architecture, land planning, urban policy and social innovation met at Bratislava’s Old Market to discuss how Bratislava, Prague and Brno should develop in the future. The first year of the CITY FORUM 2019 Czech-Slovak professional conference opened a dialogue between all stakeholders who determine future direction and actively participate in urban development. The conference’s content and goal were neatly summarised by its name: How to create a good city. The relatively broad topic of meaningful urban development was divided into four blocks by the conference program, and followed by various workshops.

CITY FORUM 2019 welcomed a number of respected figures, including architects Kristian Villadsen (Gehl Architects, Denmark), Jeroen Dirckx (KCAP, Netherlands), and Vas Perović ( Bevk Perovic Arhitekti, Slovenia). Igor Marko (Marko & Placemakers, London) lectured on behalf of urban planners at the conference, while Dan Mollgren (representing the Finnish cities of Helsinki and Porvoo) brought in their urban perspective. Development decision-makers were represented by the mayor of Bratislava Matúš Vallo, the director of the Prague Institute of Planning and Development Ondřej Boháč, and Michal Sedláček of KAM Brno.

Block 3 “Is a land-use plan outdated?” addressed the current hot topic of land planning and the search for an ideal form of city development. Jeroen Dirckx of KCAP Architects and Planners – that is participating in the architectural design of the new Istropolis and several large urban planning assignments in Western Europe – gave a presentation. Their corporate portfolio includes key projects such as Hafen City in Hamburg and Europaallee in Zurich. Jeroen Dirckx assessed the biggest challenges facing global cities today, including the massive demographic change related to the growth of major cities and the struggle for talent, the climate crisis, suburbanization, the availability of urban housing, and the development of urban communities. Urban planning is hence becoming an extremely challenging task with planners facing enormous challenges.

Immocap CEO Martin Šramko spoke in Block 4: “How to meaningfully fill public space in cities?”, where he presented the Reconstruction of the Trnavské mýto Underpass. This project is a unique example of cooperation between the city and a private company, and has delivered increased safety and comfort, complemented by popular new shops.
